Relevance

The strategic partnership as defined by the MoU remains relevant today.

It is clearly coherent with

  • the work of both organizations. HIVOS has directly contributed to the capacity of its local partners to use ICT in their activities, while IICD obtained support for two Country Programmes.
  • the overall development context. It took place during the WSIS process, with a growing awareness of the importance of ICT for Development., though relatively few international agencies actually explicitly support ICT integration into development.
  • the work of local organizations that benefit from this cooperation. The Programme helped them make significantly better use of ICT in their operations.

The new ICT programme in HIVOS (since 2005) and IICD’s renewed strategic framework (since 2006) attest to the continued relevance and need for work in the ICT4D area.
